Emerging Themes, Part 1

by Ron Kraemer 8/11/2008 7:59:00 AM

At Monday's IT strategic planning meeting it will be the first time we start to talk about what we have heard over the past several months.  Themes are beginning to emerge and we also want to talk about what we are not hearing.

In the area of teaching and learning, the major themes articulated to date include: equipping classrooms and learning spaces, campus wide support for a base set of instructional technologies, local technical support for faculty and staff, helping faculty and staff develop a set of basic technology competencies, and fostering a culture of collaboration and communication.

In the Outreach and Public Service area, the major themes articulated to date include: specific technologies for our outreach mission, a standard suite of collaboration tools and services, better public access to university resources, managing customer relations information, fostering a culture of collaboration and communication, and looking into new funding models.

I am looking forward to discussions in which we validate that these are the major themes and to identify other areas that are important to us.  In the coming weeks and months we will talk about our highest priorities and we will continue to solicit input across campus.

Thanks to all of you who have given their time and energy to this process.
