Thursday, July 17, 2008
UW-Madison Chief Information Officer Ron Kraemer has been elected president of the Northern Tier Networking Consortium (NTNC), a group of educational and governmental organizations in eight states stretching from the Midwest to Washington.
Formed in 2004, NTNC is working to create a route for a national backbone network across the northern U.S. and provide a robust research network connection for educational institutions in Idaho, Iowa, Minnesota, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Washington, and Wisconsin.
"I'm honored to be named to this position and eager to get started," said Kraemer. "After years of work, several parts of the network are now becoming operational, and the benefits are being realized in major ways. The NTNC has formed solid relationships with regional, national and international networks. Those collaborations will help the NTNC build and sustain a foundation for economic, academic and educational development across the northern tier."
Kraemer assumed his new position at the NTNC meeting on July 10-11 in Bozeman, Montana.
