Get access to IT systems across campus

Wednesday, December 17, 2008

Question: I need to have access to various campus IT systems and applications to do my job, but there doesn’t seem to be any one place where I can get all the necessary authorizations. Is there a campus resource out there that can help me understand what systems exist and how to access them?

Answer: UW-Madison’s Administrative Process Redesign (APR) project has created a Web site that consolidates information about the systems most frequently used for administrative functions on campus. It gives a brief overview of the IT systems and any special access they require. Each software application is briefly detailed, including this information:

  • Other names
  • Functional areas (that is, who uses it)
  • Purpose

The entry for each software application also links out to a Web page where you can get more information about the software system, including the appropriate access request forms.
