Urgent: Windows users should apply Internet Explorer patch

Microsoft has announced the release of an out-of-cycle patch to address a vulnerability in Internet Explorer 6, 7, and 8.  The patch will be released December 17. The UW-Madison Office of Campus Information Security encourages all  Windows users to apply this patch.

If you are running Automatic Update, Windows will find and apply this patch for you.  Otherwise, you must manually run Windows or Microsoft Update on your computer.  Find instructions on doing this here.

IMPORTANT: Always check with your departmental IT staff (if applicable) before installing this patch or any other software on department-owned computers!
