Strategic IT Priorities for Campus Services and Infrastructure

Priority: Establish a set of core IT infrastructure services available to all of campus.
Initiatives:- Identify and support a set of IT services around the network, data center services, identity and access management and security.
Priority: Establish a set of enabling IT infrastructure services available to all of campus that provides a common set of features and needed processes.
Initiatives:- Develop a campus-wide software licensing strategy
- Develop and campus-wide help desks and knowledgebase strategy
- Determine how to address Internet Protocol version 6 (IPV6) challenges
- Develop a “unified communications” strategy (e.g., voice and data; seamless wireless; expanded support for mobile devices)
- Establish improved governance and management strategies for the campus portal
Priority: Offer a suite of collaboration tools and services available to all of campus.
Initiatives:- Define and implement a suite (e.g., email, calendar, wiki, blog, chat, video/voice conferencing)
Priority: Create a Learning Management Systems roadmap.
Initiatives:- Provide support for Learn@UW and Moodle.
Priority: Support IT communications, collaboration and innovation across campus.
Initiatives:- Evaluate governance structures, including IT priority-setting and decision-making processes
- Develop appropriate clearinghouses for IT resources
- Orientation and training programs program for IT staff
- Foster stronger communication around IT decisions
Priority: Reduce unnecessary duplication and improve consistency.
Initiatives:- Conduct an inventory of major IT services across campus
- Develop a plan to reduce unnecessary duplication
- Establish a set of enterprise services
Priority: Develop and implement a common IT architecture and consistent infrastructure.
Priority: Improve Access to Data and Data Management Services.
Priority: Promote and support IT service leadership.
Priority: Support green computing initiatives.
