Cybersecurity Awareness Month: Speakers and events

Campus IT support staff are invited to attend a series of events in October focused on managing the security of campus computers. Here is the schedule (watch this space for updates):

Symantec Threat Report
October 11, 11:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m., Grainger Hall room 5120
Staff from Symantec will present their annual report detailing the latest trends in security vulnerabilities, malicious code, Internet fraud and more.

Security Presentations
October 18, 11:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m., Grainger Hall room 5120
Speakers will cover such topics as:

  • Implementing a security awareness program
  • Using a Security Event Manager (SEM) to monitor for threats
  • An overview of the PE Support Tools (PEST) package distributed by the DoIT Help Desk
  • Ten things to do to help prevent a data release
  • Using Identity Finder to find personally identifiable information

Endpoint Management -- Discussion Panel
October 25, 11:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m., Grainger Hall room 3190
The panel will discuss pilot projects focused on implementing Endpoint Management tools to inventory, maintain, manage, and secure end user devices such as workstations and laptops. Tools may included managed antivirus, Tivoli Endpoint Manager (Bigfix), Secunia, and more.
