Update on campus Internet outage 8/16/07

An unplanned network outage occured yesterday between approximately 3:00 and 3:15 PM. A simultaneous service error and software reconfiguration led to the disconnection of a major campus router. It affected traffic out to the Internet, but not within the campus network.
This was DoIT's mistake. Technicians quickly realized what happened and fixed it. They have reviewed procedures and it will not happen again.
DoIT is very sorry for any problems this outage may have caused.
