Current Initiatives

An IT policy initiative might produce any combination of policies, guidelines, procedures, standards or principles. The executive summary includes definitions, the status of the initiatives, and a diagram of the IT policy process.

Accessibility/Usability Assessment Tools Purchase and Implementation Team (ITAccessTP) seeks to acquire and implement tools to assess UW-Madison websites in order to help improve and maintain Web accessibility.

Non-UW-Madison Devices, Applications and Services Guidelines, Awareness and Training (nUWGuidance) seeks to improve awareness and training by updating the Guidelines for Use of non-UW-Madison Applications and Services for research and for instruction, and by creating guidelines and templates for departments to use in their operations.

Protection of Sensitive Information during Transmission (ITransmit) is developing recommendations for policy and guidelines that complement and extend the previous initiative that addressed Storage and Encryption of Sensitive Information (IEncrypt).

Web Application Security (WebAppS) seeks to improve the security of UW-Madison web applications.

Ongoing:

Accessibility/Usability of IT Coordinating Group (ITAccessCG) coordinates improvement of the accessibility/usability of UW-Madison IT systems and services, currently concentrating on the areas of Web Accessibility and Mobile Applications.

Communications and Implementation (Com) seeks to improve awareness, training and support in order to make implementation of existing IT policies, guidelines and procedures as effective and efficient as practical.

Policy Planning Team (PPT) assists the Office of the CIO with the iterative improvement of IT policy principles, procedures and plans. This includes planning for the IT Policy forums and for communication with the UW-Madison community.

Review of IT policies occurs on a regular schedule, during which the community provides feedback to the CIO's office to help guide possible revisions.
